Rev. Hannah Anderson

Rector

 

 

Rev. Hannah Anderson was called as Rector of St. Stephen's in the fall of 2005. She is a graduate of the University of Washington and University of the South School of Theology.

Prior to coming to Pittsfield, Hannah served parishes in New York and Pennsylvania. Most recently she was on the Bishop's staff in the Diocese of New York serving as Canon for Congregational Development.

Hannah is an artist with a gift for sensitive and spiritual watercolors. She and her husband Bob, an ordained hospital chaplain, enjoy visiting their three grown sons and outdoor adventures.

Hannah is also the founder of The Blessing Cup, a non-profit organization which offers financial support to programs incorporating creativity and the arts for children and youth at risk through the sale of original art products.

Rev. Gwen Sears

Deacon

 

 

When one asks about The Rev. Gwen W. Sears’s decades of service to St. Stephen’s Church, the answer is, “been there, done that,” from  volunteer Sunday school teacher to Deacon and assistant minister.

Along the way, Gwen has  been Director of  Parish Christian Education, member of the Diocesan’s Commission on Ministry, and a member of the Bement Board of Managers. She was honored for her leadership when the former library  in the parish house was dedicated as the Sears Room.                

Although she professes to be retired, Gwen has   has continued in her role as a Deacon, assisting at Sunday services and  baptisms, marriages and funerals, visiting the ill and troubled, responding to pastoral needs, and conducting lay eucharist visitor (LEV) training in the western corridor of the diocese.

Rev. Jennifer Gregg

Priest Associate and

Coordinator, Servant Leadership Center

 

 

We welcome the Rev. Jennifer Gregg, the new Coordinator of the Servant Leadership Center housed at St. Stephen’s.  A recent graduate of Berkeley Divinity School at Yale University, Jenny was ordained a Deacon in June and a Priest in December 2007.

With a desire to work with older teens and young adults, Jenny said she looks forward to assisting others in finding and fulfilling their passions in a shared quest toward servant leadership.

We are blessed with Jenny's presence and ministry.

Kathy Sulock

Parish Administrator

 

 

Kathy has served as Parish Administrator at St. Stephen's since January 1992. Her responsibilities include (but certainly aren't limited to) parish accounting, congregational communication, and administrative oversight.

Born and raised in New Jersey, she has been a resident of Pittsfield for the past 21 years. Kathy and her husband Peter have five adult children.

William Frazier

Pastoral Care Leader

 

 

Bill has been a member of St. Stephen's since 1987. He claims North Carolina as his birthplace and is a graduate of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Bill is a semi-retired Guidance Counselor from Pittsfield High. He sings with the Chancel Choir, works with St. Stephen's Table, and has served the parish in many different capacities. Bill is also a member of the diocesan Commission on Ministry and the Bement Scholarship Committee.

Bill is the proud father of Bryant and his wife, Laurie, and grandsons, Jackson and Keenan.

Anne Marcure

Director of Music

 

 

Anne Marcure returned to St. Stephen's as Director of Music in February 2004 after 22 years, almost to the day, away from the Parish.

She has served as organist/choir director of Episcopal churches in the area from Great Barrington to Bennington VT, as well as Beaufort and Hilton Head SC and various Episcopal parishes in Germany under the auspices of the Bishop for the Armed Forces.

A native of Enfield, CT, she first came to Pittsfield in 1965. Her four now adult daughters grew up in the Parish and took part in many Music Department activities. She is currently serving as Dean of the Berkshire Chapter, American Guild of Organists.

Dan Moon

Coordinator of St. Stephen's Table

 

 

Dan has been a member of St. Stephen's his entire life. He and his wife Angie were married at St. Stephen's in 1992. Dan has taught Culinary Arts at Taconic High School since 2000. He also has extensive experience in the restaurant/ hospitality industry (serving as manager of the Dakota Restaurant for several years) and a degree in Occupational Education from Westfield State.

Dan enjoys outdoor activities like golf and bicycling. He and Angie live in Pittsfield with their two daughters, Sarah and Abby .

Suzanne White
Director of Catechesis
 

 

Suzanne White, a “cradle member” of St. Stephen’s, introduces  young children to Christian worship in a program she wishes she had been taught when she was a child.
Suzanne has been teaching or directing in our church school programs since she began helping in the nursery when her son Nathan, now a teenager, was an infant. Five years ago, she joined in introducing at St. Stephen’s The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program based on the Montessori Program.


While not busy at the church or with Nathan and daughter Kira, Suzanne is a part-time assistant at Sterns Elementary School in Pittsfield and is pursuing a two-year course in early childhood education at Berkshire Community College. From there she is thinking of seeking certification as a Montessori teacher. Suzanne and her husband Joe - an usher and LEM at St. Stephen's - have been married for over 20 years.

Jim Day

Artist in Residence

 

 

A parishioner at St. Stephen's for several years, Jim Day has been parish Artist in Residence since 2004. Originally from Maine, he studied theater and art at the University of Maine.

Jim has a history of service in the sacred arts at his former parish in Maine and here at St. Stephen's, creating icons, banners, quilts, and a labyrinth; singing in our choir; and writing and directing children's performances.

Jim has also worked for several years in in the costume shop at Shakespeare & Company.

Roy Sutton

Sunday Sexton

 

 

Roy has been a life-long member of St. Stephen's Parish and joined the staff of St. Stephen's in July 2002.

He serves as Sexton for weddings and funerals as well. Roy is a former St. Stephen's Sunday School teacher and has also served as an usher and a coffee hour host. Roy and his family volunteer regularly at St. Stephen's Table.

Roy is employed with the MSPCA Law Enforcement Division and resides in Pittsfield with his wife Marie. Roy and Marie have two daughters, Lee Ann and Katie.

Philip Desch
Property Manager
 

 

Phil has been a member of St. Stephen's since moving to Pittsfield in 1957.

He has served on the Vestry and as Junior Warden. Phil has been Chairman (now emeritus) of the Property Committee since 1985 and currently serves as Property Manager. Phil is an electrical engineering graduate of the University of Wisconsin and a GE retiree.

April 29, 2007 was officially designated "Phil Desch Day" in recognition of Phil's decades of service to St. Stephen's.

Weekday Sextons

Cheryl Smith, Supervisor

 

 

A team from Berkshire County ARC's Advantage Employee Network (AEN) serves as St. Stephen's weekday sextons. Cheryl Smith provides supervision for the team.

AEN is one of the most successful supported employment programs in Massachusetts. AEN provides comprehensive vocational services that include evaluations, career planning, job search and placement, on-the-job training and follow-up.

In 2006, Berkshire County ARC named St. Stephen's its Employer of the Year, recognizing the Parish's record of employing people with disabilities.
