Concert to Benefit Afghan Women

Afghan Female Student Outreach (AFSO) and Cuatro Puntos join to produce benefit concert of “Songs of Love and War,” underground music from Afghanistan

Date: Sunday, June 30, 2024
Time: 4:30 – 7:00 pm
Place: St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church

Cuatro Puntos, a Connecticut-based nonprofit music ensemble devoted to amplifying silenced, persecuted, and underrepresented music and musicians, has worked with Afghan refugee composer Arson Fahim of Boston to produce the concert “Unsilenced,” music recorded secretly in 2023 in Afghanistan under the Taliban, which has banned music performance despite the country’s rich tradition of instrumental and vocal music. The concert will feature a piano quartet commissioned by Cuatro Puntos and written by Arson Fahim.

Also banned under the Taliban is education for women after the 6th grade, including all university education. Afghan Female Student Outreach (AFSO), an international collective of professors bringing education and a pathway to the future to university women in Afghanistan, will present a brief formal program at a reception following the concert.

The concert is free and open to the public, with a goodwill donation at the door or on Eventbrite
