Rest in Peace: The Right Reverend John Tarrant

August 24, 2020

To the dear people of St Stephen’s,

It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we write to you with the news that our beloved interim rector, The Rt. Rev. John Tarrant, died this morning of a heart attack. There are simply no words to convey our deep sorrow at this incredible loss, and we take comfort in knowing that God holds us through all things. John was the answer to our prayers over this past year – full of love, generosity, and compassion -a humble servant doing God’s work. We do not have any clear answers on any of the questions you may be holding, and will be in touch as soon as we have more information to share with you.

Regular worship services for this weekend at St. Stephen’s will be officiated by The Rev. Jennifer Gregg.

We invite you to hold Pat, Jessica, Mary, Alec, his grandchildren, and the entire family in prayer during this time of grief. Planning for a funeral service is in process and we will make those details available to you as soon as we have them.

O God of grace and glory, we remember before you this day our brother, John.  We thank you for giving him to us, his family and friends, to know and to love as a companion on our earthly pilgrimage.  In your boundless compassion, console us who mourn.  Give us faith to see in death the gate of eternal life, so that in quiet confidence we may continue our course on earth, until, by your call, we are reunited with those who have gone before; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Your wardens,

Tom Dillon and Erin Sullivan
